Summer Garden
The Seasons is my colourful ode to the beauty and the diversity of nature, while interpreting the inevitable change within our life. My time spend in South Africa and the subsequent Covid period in the Frisian countryside were main sources of inspiration for the concept, colourschemes and choice of elements.
Four photographic assemblages are translated into highly detailed Jacquard tapestries, expressing the distinct feelings and flourishings of the both literal and metaphorical seasons Spring Field, Summer Garden, Autumn Forest and Winter Sleep. Abundant flowers, plants, birds, insects and butterflies are flowing, blossoming and intermingling into a harmonious symbiosis between the fluid organic and the abstract graphic.
From digital to tactile
For Summer Garden I selected around 100 images and then cut-out, re-colored, adjusted and merged elements of these images to create the blossoming composition. Thereafter I translated the complex multi-layered digital artwork to Jacquard fabric by implementing various weaving techniques while keeping in mind the Jacquard weaving method built up from eight colors only. The yarns are made from NewLife® Polyester and the Jacquard weaving is done within a sustainable textile production in The Netherlands.
For the optional updated version I added more 3D-effects and some sparks through hand-embroidery and beading. These editions come framed on an invisible wooden stretcher-frame. New photos coming soon!
