‘The word mandala means ‘circle’ in Sanskrit. A mandala is a symbol of the universe in its ideal form, and its creation signifies the transformation of a universe of suffering into one of joy. They are also used as an aid for meditation, inspiration and inner wisdom.’
Back in 2012 I’ve developed my first self-initiated collection: a lighting series with pattern illustrations inspired by Sanskrit mandalas, Art Deco luxury and the diversity of nature. The collection exists of small light cubes and tiles with patterns in several colors, including special editions in silver and gold mirror glass. To realize and sell the products I collaborated with interior brand Kewlox, which unfortunately got bankrupt. All the remaining lights have been sold to the executor and are lost in space. But however, the StormLight collection got selected for the exhibition ‘Light and Dark’ at the Artemis Design Hotel in December 2013, and now – 9 years later – it is finally time to wipe off the dust from all the old samples and give these little lights a new life! More coming soon….
